David Bowie designs a car for U.K. auto show

The Man Who Sold The Car
Rock musicians have always been known for driving fancy cars, but when it comes to actually figuring out how the things work, well, we'd have imagined you'd have better luck asking just about any other sort of primate -- until we saw the lineup at this year's auto show in Birmingham, England.

One of the featured exhibits at the show, which runs through next weekend, is a collection of Mini automobiles -- one of which was designed by none other than David Bowie. You'd think that the rock renaissance man would be so busy with selling bonds, hawking his web service and coming up with new lines of wallpaper that he wouldn't have time to pump his own gas, let alone cook up a vehicle from scratch, yet his model has drawn plenty of attention from experts.

Part of the notice probably stems from the fact that the car is covered entirely in mirrors -- a good thing when it comes to visibility (or checking your eyeliner) but not so hot in terms of economics. The Bowie-mobile is said to be the most extravagantly priced item at the show. Then again, when you've got $50 million in bonds floating around with your name on 'em, who cares about money.
