The intro by Laurence Fishburne was one of two that were done at the taping of the award show. Actually, Fishburne introduced Lenny just for tape. Lenny came out after the SECOND intro, which was done by Dennis Miller. I'm not sure why they did it that way, but I know that this was all edited for the airing of the show on VH1.
