hello friends...

i've recently completed a run of Hair at the playhouse.
so i figure it's time to kick back and
be an audience member for some great entertainment.
i'm also hoping to connect with some friends that i haven't seen in a while.
with that in mind, there are a couple of music events coming up
that will be a great way to spend some time.
after being stuck in STOP class on tues & wed,
i'll be dying to get out and soak up some life.
come join me!
:-)

:: ed love quartet ::

the Ed Love Quartet will be
at PO Pears (9th & M)
this Thursday (Aug 16)
from 7:30-10PM.

saxman ed love is one of lincoln's musical treasures.
he's a skilled and passionate player with many colors in his musical palette.
anytime his name is on the bill, you can count of some quality music.
with ed, as usual, will be Rusty White on bass and Wardell Smith on drums.
special attraction for this gig is Frank Brasile on baritone saxophone.

ed had this to say about Brasile: Frank is a former winner of the Nebraska
Jazz Orchestra's Young Jazz Artist competition, a recent graduate of North
Texas State University (one of America's best jazz schools), and a current
resident of New York City. I'm very excited to have Frank in the band for
this show.

if you haven't attended the Thursday Night Jazz Series at P.O. Pears yet,
now's the time! the acoustics are great, the audience is growing into
one big happy family, summer is almost over and Jazz is GOOD for you.

hope to see you on the 16th!

another note: ed is also a regular at the Monday Night Big Band Night
as it continues its exploration of the big band sound at P.O. Pears
every Monday at 7:30.

Anthony DeCurtis (Rolling Stone/VH1) on Jonatha's live album...
Jonatha Brooke is one of the increasing number of exceptionally talented
artists whom the contemporary music industry -- now devoted almost
exclusively to million-sellers or better -- is content to leave to their own
devices.

That's fine with her. Recording for her own independent label, Brooke is
able to continue making the kind of music she likes to make -- smart,
insightful songs that invite a larger audience but never pander to it.

On Live's 10 tracks, Brooke evokes an easy intimacy -- not based on clever
or cute stage chat, but on the shared emotional currents her songs tap into.
The arrangements are delicate, centered on Brooke's acoustic guitar,
keyboards and, on a number of tracks, highly atmospheric electric guitar.
Songs about female friendship ("Annie"), the possibilities of love ("At the
Still Point") and dreams of romantic escape ("Ten Cent Wings") hint at
revelation but fail to resolve. It's a process that, curiously, leaves you
sitting with your own feelings as the songs drift off.

:: one more thing ::

i'd like to send my love and gratitude to those of you who came to
see Hair over the last few weeks. your support for the playhouse
and myself is greatly and humbly appreciated.
