:: monty alexander ::

i've heard rumblings from reliable sources about a great jazz show.
monty alexander is going to play the royal grove on saturday,
and by all accounts, this show is not to be missed.
people i trust have said 'don't miss this show.'
which means it's not going to be a mediocre affair.
i don't know anything about monty alexander,
but i'm sure we don't often get to see jazz of this caliber in these parts.
i don't know the start time, but it's probably 9-9:30ish.
i don't know the cover charge, but it's probably enough
to limit the audience to jazz enthusiasts only.
which brings me to my rant of the day.
the royal grove and it's 'reputation.'
seriously.
i've heard so many people decide to not attend
a show out there because it's 'the grove,'
and they have a 'scary' or 'suspect' clientel.
i can't tell you how lame i think that is.
i'm probably going to offend more than a few people
on this list, but let it go, people.
i mean, what do you think is going to happen?
and exactly who are these 'unsavory' characters?
we're all people made from the same material.
we all have our sob stories and triumphs.
and these people aren't as 'shady' as you think.
besides, the grove is the best venue in town to see live music.
well, maybe the rococo has the edge now.
but it's still a fantastic place to see live music.
it's got a big dance floor, plenty of seating,
a catwalk to watch the action from above,
and a great great sound system.
but if my whole 'honor diversity' message doesn't hold water
with you, consider this, anytime there's a good band,
the cover charge will keep the 'regulars' away,
so it'll just be us jamming to great reggae,
rock, funk, jazz or whatever's on the bill.
so don't let the location of this gig get in the way
of you seeing some full-on top-notch jazz tomorrow.
but as the modern sage dennis miller says...
of course, that's just my opinion.
i could be wrong.
