i make a concerted effort
to keep politics out of my propaganda.
but in life there are no absolutes (except that one [which only proves the point]).
so with that....
term limits are starting to affect the state legislature.
a very good state senator is seeking his seventh and final term.
over the last 24 years my father has used his considerable talents
to make his district and state a better place.
whether or not you agree with the politics,
his intellect, conduct and gift of oratory command respect.
many of you know of his considerable gifts,
but few know them more intimately than his family.
what i mean to say is...
my father is a great man
and he only gets to keep the job that he loves for one more term
if he wins.
and this time his opponent is mounting a formidable campaign.
so i'm asking for some help because i think he could use some foot soldiers.
he's having a fundraiser this friday for the purpose of
having a good time and marshalling some support.
ordinarily, i'd just ask you to pledge some time
(to help with mailings or yard signs or whatever).
but i realize that because this is his last election,
it also represents an appropriate time for those of
us who have silently admired the work he's done over the years
to step forward and give some of that elbow grease back.
(you understand i mean that metaphorically, right?)
in other words, if you feel so inclined come pledge some time to help.
besides, he knows how to throw a good party, so this is a win/win proposition!
if time and resources are tight right now, don't sweat it.
consider coming to the fundraiser on friday just to shake his hand
and thank him for the great years of service.
(you can also congratulate the new grandfather! :-)
the party is this friday (april 25th)
he's asking a $5 donation at the door (which opens at 7:30)
there'll be some entertainment by my mom's singing group, baby needs shoes
and jeff castle, 'mr. magic' (starting at maybe 8 or 8:30-ish?)
then at 9:30 we'll spin some tunes and take to the dancefloor!
the party is at the wsi hall - 1430 north 10th street
it's in the russian bottoms,
next to the guard armory,
across from that old shooting range.
and there will be a cash bar.
(hmm. those sound like components of a completely different type of party...)
whether or not you can attend, send me your favorite 'dave story.'
i'll collect them and give him a printout of all the emails.
i'm not sending him this email, so it'll be a surprise....

hope to see you there!

<-shh! it's a secret
twenty years from now you
will be more disappointed by
the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do.
so throw off the bowlines. sail away from the safe harbor.
catch the trade winds in your sails. explore. dream. discover.
