from ben marker...
well, action squad is growing
up. we gotta gig at duffy's on oct 6. we're
playing with the band oh my god, from chicago. this will be the debut of
our new line up, and i'm really excited about it. we now feature joey
manthey (sp?) on lead guitar, a former guitar player for lil slim. we'll
play right @ 10:30pm. get ready for a half hour of fist pumping, heart
stopping rock n roll. i'd say be prepared, but there's no way you can be.
so be afraid. be very very afraid. rock n roll, is not dead.
:: antibalas ::
ok - y'all, this is going
to be a motherfucker.
there are tons and tons of you on this list who love music.
from everything i've heard, this is going to be a great show.
so come be a part of this one.
besides, i haven't seen a bunch of you in a while.
let's use this as an excuse to catch up...
from carter van pelt
Antibalas is a 14-piece musical collective based in Brooklyn, NY. The
group is dedicated to furthering the legacy of afrobeat, a creation of
Nigerian legend Fela Anikulapo-Kuti that combines West African
percussion, Latin horns, jazz, and funk.
Due to its incendiary live
shows, Antibalas has become one of the
most respected independent acts in the music business. The band
performed at this summer's prestigious Montreux and Newport jazz
festivals on the strength of its acclaimed second album, Talkatif. The
group also received national exposure in the past year from NPR's "All
Things Considered" and Public Radio International's "World Cafe."
Antibalas' Midwest tour in
October will visit Chicago, Milwaukee, and St.
Louis but also Minneapolis and Nebraska for the first time. Notably, the
band is performing in Lincoln instead of Lawrence, KS or Kansas City
before it heads to St. Louis -- an unusual event considering the history
of live performances in the Midwest.
The concert is on October
15th at 9 p.m. at the Royal Grove, 340 West
Cornhusker Hwy, Lincoln. Doors open at 8 p.m. Attendees must be 19
or older. The cost is $15 at the door or $12 with a flier/handbill.
The concert is supported,
in part, by the Berman Music Foundation of
Lincoln.

The Lofte Community Theatre wraps up it's 26th Season with
Moon Over Buffalo
By Ken Ludwig
Oct. 4, 5, 6, 10, 11, 12, 13, 17, 18, 19, 20
It's 1953 and television
has captivated the nation. This leaves a very small
audience for an acting couple, George and Charlotte Hay, on tour in Buffalo.
Fate has given these thespians one more shot at starring roles in a
Hollywood epic and director Frank Capra himself is en route to catch their
matinee performance. Will Charlotte appear or run off with their agent? Will
George be sober enough to emote? Hilarious misunderstandings pile on madcap
misadventures.
For more on the Lofte and ticket information go to www.lofte.com
(side note, Anne is in this
one and it is going to be one of the funniest
things I have ever seen on stage!)
:: hoboken chicken emergency ::
When young Arthur is sent out to buy a Thanksgiving turkey, he returns with Henrietta -- a 266-pound chicken -- who causes much mischief and mayhem in Hoboken.
October 18-20; 25-27
7:00 Fridays
1:00 and 4:00 Saturdays and Sundays
:: acting classes ::
The Playhouse is offering two acting classes for adults (age 18 and up) on Sunday evenings, beginning September 29, and continuing for six weeks.
These classes are ideal for performers who want to hone their skills, but cant make a commitment to the full run of a single show. Theyre also perfect for adults who have always wanted to try performing, but find the thought of leaping into an actual audition just a bit intimidating.
For those with a musical inclination, sign up for Shower Singers Unite, taught by Laurie Martinez- Lessman from 5 to 6 PM. If your flair is more for the dramatic, try Theatre Debut, an intro to acting for adults taught by Kat Burton from 6 to 7 PM.
The fee per class is $60 ($55 for LCP subscribers). Call 489-7529 to register.
:: jam factor ::

twenty years from now you
will be more disappointed by
the things that you didn't do than by the ones you did do.
so throw off the bowlines. sail away from the safe harbor.
catch the trade winds in your sails. explore. dream. discover.
