::passion of dracula ::

this goes on your NEED list.
not your want list.
not your hope to list.
not your i hope this goes well list.
make a point to go see the passion of dracula
downtown at the haymarket theater.

why is this a need?
1 - to see some really creative interesting theater
2 - to watch some of lincoln's best talent show their colors
3 - to support a local scriptwriter's baby
4 - to support a local venue that provides great art and services
i could probably make up some more reasons,
but by now you catch my drift.

it's easy to sit around and talk about how lucky we are to have
such a deep talent pool in this town and so much good theater to see.
but then we'll let a treasure like this go by because we just don't
decide to go until it's too late.
people, please...
pretty please...
call for your tickets today, the rest will work itself out.

the passion of dracula at the haymarket theater, 803 q street

:: tom hart at the blue river gallery ::

submitted by david landis (dlandis@unicam.state.ne.us)

I have invited Tom Hart, Nebraska abstract artist and student of Keith
Jacobshagen, to show his large canvases reflecting his interests in Native
American culture and the artisanship of blue collar work at a barn that has
been converted to an art studio at the Blue River Lodge. You are invited to
see Tom’s work, sip a beverage and enjoy the turning leaves at the
Blue River Lodge on Sunday November 10th between 2 and 4 p.m.
Sincerely, Dave Landis

Directions
From Lincoln, head South on Highway 77. Turn right, heading West on Highway
33 - this highway will take you all the way through Crete. As you are
leaving the city limits, turn right heading North on the gravel road just
past the “Dorchester 7” sign. Follow this gravel road for approximately 2
miles until you see the “Blue River Lodge” sign.
Then follow the signs to the barn/studio.

For a map and directions point your web browser to:

There will be a silent auction to benefit the North Lincoln Voters for
Landis, 4328 Touzalin Ave., which paid for a promotional mailing.

Howdy folks -

Just in case you thought Lincoln lacked cultural experiences, I wanted you
to know that you have lots of upcoming opportunities to sample fine music
right here in our fair city. I am, of course, biased in this regard - this
is my sister's performance schedule. But these are outstanding productions
of some fabulous material. Below are her (Adrienne Walker Dickson) notes on
the shows. Do let me know if you have questions - hope you get a chance to
enjoy some of these events!

Tuesday, November 5th, 7:30pm at St. Paul's Methodist Church (downtown), I
am the alto soloist in Mozart's Coronation Mass - part of the Lincoln
Symphony Orchestra's November concert. You can call the Symphony office for
tickets.

Friday, November 8th, 7:30pm and Sunday November 10th, 3:00pm Kimball
Recital Hall - Dialogue of the Carmelites: a French opera that we are
singing in English. I am Madame Lidoine, the 2nd Prioress (i.e. Mother
Superior) of the Carmelite Convent during French Revolutionary France - The
Reign of Terror. I highly recommend this opera as it is quite moving and
based on a true story. You can read about this production in this Sunday's
focus (you may recognize one of the faces on the cover). ;-) Tickets are
available at the Lied Center Box Office.

Thursday, December 12th, TBA (on time) - Kimball Recital Hall - UNL Fall
opera scenes. I am in one lengthy scene from Bellini's I Capuletti e
Montecchi (yes, I play Romeo - a pants role), and I am directing another
scene.

Friday December 13th, 7:30pm? and Sunday December 15th, 3pm? - both at First
Plymouth Church - Randall Thompson's The Nativity - I will be performing the
role of Elisabeth (this production is staged and a part of the Abendmusik
2002-2003 season). You can call Abendmusik for tickets.
Upcoming next semester (so far), I will be Marcellina in Mozart's The
Marriage of Figaro - UNL opera, Kimball Recital Hall, April 3 - 6th.

:: true west ::
submitted by jay chipman (jsc@NebrWesleyan.edu)

Here is notice of a performing arts events occurring in Lincoln that may be
of interest. Please make note and I invite you to forward the message to
others who might be interested.

Nebraska Wesleyan University Theatre presents TRUE WEST by acclaimed
contemporary author Sam Shepard Nov 1-3 and 7-9 at the Miller Theatre on the
Nebraska Wesleyan campus. TRUE WEST, directed by Jack Parkhurst, is a comedy
about two brothers who concoct a scheme to write a screenplay that is a
contemporary ³true" western. The show is a biting satire about sibling
rivalry, Hollywood dreams, and California¹s new age philosophy. Please be
alerted that it does contain adult language and situations.

One of the interesting approaches being done with the show is that the
actors playing the main roles of the brothers in the show switch parts every
other night. This casting twist was done On-Broadway a couple of years ago
with Phillip Seymour Hoffman and John C. Reilly alternating in the roles
(internet article at: http://www.culturevulture.net/Theater/TrueWest.htm ).

TRUE WEST is showing in the Miller Theatre, 50th & Huntington Ave, Lincoln,
NE on:

Friday, November 1 at 7:30 p.m.
Saturday, November 2 at 7:30 p.m.
Sunday, November 3 at 7:30 p.m.

Thursday, November 7 at 7:30 p.m.
Friday, November 8 at 7:30 p.m.
Saturday, November 9 at 7:30 p.m.

Reservations may be made at the NWU Theatre Box Office from 2-5 daily at
(402) 465-2384 or email wesleyanshows@hotmail.com
Ticket prices $10 adult, $7.50 youth (12-17) & seniors, $5 children under 12
