Jo Languis works at LBL (in AFS). This will be their very first gig - so any
publicity you can give them would be much appreciated. I have a CD of
theirs - their reggae is pretty good - a lot of Bob Marley stuff, and some
original as well. Should be some good sounds!

DON'T MISS THIS PROVOCATIVE NEW PRODUCTION BY UNIVERSITY THEATRE

UNL's University Theatre Continues Season with The Provocative Play
THE SHAPE OF THINGS

UNL Theatre's University Theatre continues its 2002-2003 season with a
provocative production of Neil LaBute's contemporary play THE SHAPE OF
THINGS on November 7, 8, 13, 14, 15, 16 at 7:30 p.m. and November 10 at
2:00 p.m. in Studio Theatre, third floor Temple Building, 12th and R
streets. A discussion will be held following the Thursday, November 14
production. This discussion will center on audience reactions to the
controversial outcome of the play.

"THE SHAPE OF THINGS is a play that grapples with the big questions about
modern relationships and art by following the path of two college couples,"
said director, Virginia Smith. Phillip and Jenny are a young couple
planning their wedding; under water with everyone in scuba gear. It is
Adam and Evelyn around which the controversy centers, however. Adam is a
shy, geeky English major who works at the local museum. Enter Evelyn who
is a sharp, attractive avant-garde artist with opinions aplenty. Evelyn
sees potential in Adam. According to Smith, "We follow both couples
through the ups and downs of dating life. On one level it's like any good
Cinderella story-Evelyn's love makes Adam beautiful."

Smith says the play focuses on the following questions: "Why do we treat
the people we love the way we do? When in the course of a relationship do
we begin to claim ownership and start changing that person for our own
desires rather than adapting ourselves to live with them? Why do we change
things about ourselves for people we love, or think we have to change
ourselves to find love?" The play also examines art and the general
subjectivity of art such as how two people can look at the same thing, see
something different and both be right.

Playing the role of Evelyn is senior Theatre Arts major Abby Miller.
Rounding out the cast are undergraduate theatre majors Justin Rae as Adam,
Adam Jefferis as Phillip and Jody Christopherson as Jenny. Designs are by
undergraduates D. Craig M. Napoliello (scenic), Scott Raymond (lighting),
and Renee Albrecht (costumes). Graduate student Kristie Gordon designs
sound.

The production contains mature themes and may not be suitable for all
audience members. Please contact 472-1619 if you have questions about
content suitability.

Tickets for University Theatre shows may be obtained by contacting the Lied
Center Box Office at 301 N. 12th or 472-4747 or 800-432-3231 Monday through
Friday from 11:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Individual tickets are $12.00 patrons,
$10.00 faculty/staff and senior citizens, and $8.00 students.

:: voices from the resistance ::

Pippa White will be performing her latest one-woman show, "Voices form the
Resistance" on Thursday, November 14 at 7:30 p.m. The Mediation Center and
Southeast Community College are sponsoring the event, with proceeds to
benefit The Mediation Center. The cost is $20/person, which includes a
buffet of elegant desserts.

Pippa is a Lincoln actress with extensive theatre and television experience.
She has written a number of one-woman shows, which she has performed in
eleven states. Here is how she describes “Voices from the Resistance:”

Ordinary People. Shopkeepers, factory workers, housewives, bankers, farmers,
teachers, auto mechanics. They worked in France, Italy, Germany, Holland,
Scandinavia -- wherever the Nazis were, they were fighting an underground
war against Hitler. They led Jews to freedom, rescued Allied soldiers,
printed newspapers, blew up bridges, risked their lives every day to do what
they could to cripple the Third Reich. And they did. And they have stories
to tell.

The show will be at the Southeast Community College, 8800 O Street.
Because the event is being presented through Southeast Community College,
each person must individually fill out a "noncredit course registration
form." You may do this at the door on the 14th, or you may register ahead of
time. Information and brochures are available from The Mediation Center,
441-5740, and Southeast Community College, 437-2712.
