Skit Wanted ::
Via Van Bloom Travel agency is doing a promotional touring spotlight on March
13 at The Savannah Pines theater on 38th and Pine Lake Road at 7:00pm. This
month they're spotlighting Walt Disney World, and are looking for a group of
actors to come up with a 5-15 minute skit (keeping it tasteful--Karen statham!)
involving the disney favorites, (ie cinderella, snowhite, lion king etc) to
give the audience some entertainment. This could be a lot of fun, and get your
creative juices flowing! Let me know via email -- usmvb14@aol.com, or call 499-8784.
Thanks!

19 ::
On February 19, 2003 at 7:30 p.m., Rhythm in Shoes & the Red Clay Ramblers
will present "Rambleshoe" at the Lied Center. Rhythm in Shoes is an
Ohio-based dance company that specializes in traditional forms of American
dance. Its current musical partner is the Red Clay Ramblers, a North
Carolina string band whose repertoire reveals roots in old-time mountain
music but also a broader interest in country, rock, Dixieland, bluegrass,
gospel, and the American musical.

:: Boy Gets Girl - this weekend ::
submitted by paul pearson (cultitem@hotmail.com)
I really hope you have some time this coming weekend. UNL Theatrix Studio Theatre
is presenting BOY GETS GIRL and it really will be worth your time, I feel. I
was not that nuts about the script when we first started although I did say
I thought it would play better than it read --- and that seems very much the
case. It is sort of a thriller, but not the kind with big jumper-scary scenes,
but rather one that involves you because the characters are so well drawn and
you find you really care about their stories and their place in this chain of
events.
The other thing of great interest is the quality of the cast: this is a strong
group of actors, and it has been adapted to fit into their real ages closely
enough that there is none of that jarring young-as-older that can happen in
a student production. Most of these are grad students and over 25. The leading
lady, Joan Lauckner, might well be one of those people we can say "we saw
her when ...." and the supporting roles are exceptionally well acted and
detailed.
BOY GETS GIRL has been the number one script played in theatres all over the
country this year (Laramie Project number two), and I can see why now that we
have worked on it: it has a fine story but it also raises so many issues about
relationships between the sexes, yet it never seems preachy to me. The words
really can come to life with hard working actors.
Plus you have a unique opportunity: UNL's production plays this weekend and
then another production of it opens at Wesleyan the next week. Here is a chance
to see a good play in the hands of two different groups.
Details: BOY GETS GIRL
UNL - Theatrix / Studio Theatre -- Temple 3rd Floor
Thursday - Saturday Feb. 20-22 @ 7:30 p.m. (also: 10:30 p.m. show Friday only)
No reserved seats and tickets go fast: selling begins one hour prior to curtain
-- seating one-half hour before curtain. Tickets are really cheap for Theatrix,
but I don't know the exact admission: $10 or under I believe.
And if you are kind enough to just show up to see my work you will enjoy this
character! But you will be so glad you got to see this talented group. Adult
situations and some adult language (good for mature high school kids and up.)
