bring in da noise/bring in the funk ::
four-time tony award winner.
by many accounts, savion glover is the greatest tap dancer on the planet.
many say he holds the title of 'greatest ever.'
noise/funk utilizes the rhythms
and energies of tap to celebrate the history of the beat by presenting text
and songs which are comprised of glover's tap; poetry by reg e. gaines; and
music by ann duquesnay, zane mark and daryl waters.
the show grew out of wolfe's idea of savion as a living repository of rhythm.
wolfe comments: "from generation to generation, tap dancers taught each
other their steps. the old timers passed their information on to savion, and
it landed in his feet, his being, and his soul. re-inventing these steps he
has created a new form, and through his choreography in noise/funk, he is teaching
tap to a new generation of dancers."
"savion glover roared into town tuesday on a pair of high-velocity tap
shoes. all right, it's just a bit of
metal on the bottoms of those shoes, but the way that man moves, it might as
well be jet engines." - dolores whiskeyman, washington post
"it's loud. it's glitzy. it's way beyond energetic. It's brash, historic,
intense, uplifting and possibly the most polished piece of pure kinesthetic
theater we've seen around here ever." - kathleen kirby, flint journal review
"...what is glover,
the supreme hoofer of our age—an airborne Charlie Parker solo with feet—if
not tops in taps?" -michael phillips
"what glover brings in is talent, excitement and energy. he and his seven
associates have so much verve
and stamina it's a wonder the bricks are still in place in the brick city showplace."
