I am not sure if this qualifies as Spam or not, but it does involve a pitch, and something to eat. June 5th is National Hunger Awareness Day, and the Food Bank of Lincoln is having an Empty Bowls Luncheon. This luncheon takes place from 11am-1pm at Windsor Stables, at 1024 L Street.
Tickets are $20 a piece. For $20 you receive a handcrafted bowl of your choice from Down Under Pottery, which is owned by Kathleen Grossman. She is a terrific supporter of the Food Bank who is lending her time and talent, and the time and talents of her students to produce a spectacular array of bowls. You also will enjoy an excellent selection of soups and breads from area restaurants. The participating restaurants include: The Cornhusker, Billy's, Brewsky's, Lazlo's/Fireworks, Buzzard Billy's, Green Gateau, and China Inn. Grateful Bread will be providing the bread, and The Cookie Company will supply the cookies. (There's a couple of coincidences for you.)
We will have a short program that will begin at 12:15pm. Scheduled speakers include Dr. Norman Leach, of the Lincoln Interfaith Council, Susanne Blue from Matt Talbot Kitchen, and State Poet William Kloefkorn. We will have a potter or two "throwing" bowls during the event, and some entertainment.
It should be a great event, and will be used to generate awareness about hunger in our area, and will be a fundraiser for the Food Bank of Lincoln to help us in our efforts to end Hunger in Southeast Nebraska.
Please let me know if you want to buy a ticket. Please let me know if you would like to but 2 tickets or ten. Please forward this e-mail to other people you think would be interested in supporting the Food Bank by attending this event. If you want, send me a check made out to the Food Bank of Lincoln for the amount of tickets you want to purchase, or give me a call, and we will make arrangements. We hope to have a full house, and a meaningful, fun event. Everybody will leave with a terrific bowl that will remind you of the Food Bank (I can't wait for you to see the bowls) , and our National Hunger Awareness Day event.
