The Blue River Art Barn hosts an art show titled “No Laughing Matter,” featuring Lincoln artists Bob Hall and Jake Gillespie. Show dates are Friday, July 11th through Sunday, July 13th 2003.
Bob Hall was an artist for Marvel Comics for three decades. His work can be seen in countless installments of Batman, Spiderman and Shadowman comics and graphic novels. For his serious work, Bob creates abstract paintings in acrylic. “Bob’s artistry, combined with a unique flair for the dramatic, result in remarkable pieces that truly involve the viewer on many different levels,” says Art Barn Curator, Tom Hart. “Each piece creates a unique world that the viewer will want to know more about.” Bob studied at the New School in New York, the Don Stacy Studio and John Buscema’s “How to Draw the Marvel Comics Way” seminar. He’s been shown at the Hayden Art Gallery in Lincoln and the Artists’ Consortium, of which he is a member. Bob is also well known in the world of theatre. He’s directed plays in New York and New Jersey for the New Rude Mechanicals and the George Street Players. He’s directed locally for Nebraska Repertory Theatre, the Swan Theatre, the Haymarket Theatre, and the Lincoln Community Playhouse.
Jake Gillespie is a figurative painter using oils on canvas. He has recently shown his work at Doc’s in Lincoln and is a regular at the Mill. Jake is a student at the University, and says that he keeps taking classes so he can get studio space.
Dates and times for the show are: Friday, July 11, 7-9 p.m.; Saturday, July 12, 10-4 p.m.; & Sunday, July 13, 2-5 p.m.
