This
tuneful joyride is a celebration of the mating game that takes on the truths
and myths behind that contemporary conundrum know as "the relationship".
With four actors playing over forty roles in a collection of scenes and songs,
I LOVE YOU, YOU'RE PERFECT, NOW CHANGE reveals the difficulties and joys of
connecting with another person, no matter what age. Everything you've secretly
thought about dating, romance, marriage, lovers, husbands, wives, and in-laws
(but were afraid to admit) is celebrated in this hilarious revue that pays tribute
to those who have loved and lost, to those who have fallen on their face at
the portal of romance, to those who have dared to ask, "Say, what are you
doing Saturday night?" Critics call it: "A great date show. A perfect
mating dance! It's 'Seinfeld' set to music!"
I LOVE YOU, YOU'RE PERFECT, NOW CHANGE was written by the team of Joe DiPietro and Jimmy Roberts. Both of these men have strong track records behind them. DiPietro's other well-known work is the play Over the River and Through the Woods, which is a regional theatre favorite, and Roberts is the composer of A...My Name is Still Alice. I LOVE YOU, YOU'RE PERFECT, NOW CHANGE premiered in 1995 at New Jersey's American Stage Company, followed by a run at New Haven's prestigious Long Wharf Theater the following season. In August 1996, the show opened off-Broadway at the Westside Theatre and in January 2001, with performance #1,848, it became off-Broadway's longest running musical revue. During its run in New York it has become the most proposal-friendly show in town. More than forty-two times, a young man has taken the stage to make a surprise proposal to his sweetheart. In all cases, the brides-to-be happily accepted as the audience roared with approval.
This production reunites cast members Steven C. Rich and Cris Rook who played opposite one another in last year's Midwest premiere of JEKYLL & HYDE THE MUSICAL. Joining Rich and Rook are the talented Karen F. Wills and Steve Pearson. Mr. Rich returns to Lincoln for this special engagement after having appeared at the New Bedford Festival Theatre (Massachusetts) in a production of SMOKEY JOE'S CAFE. Steven has also performed in SMOKEY JOE'S CAFE with the Broadhollow Theatre Company (NYC) and the Connecticut Repertory Theatre, where he also played the role of Beadle Bamford in SWEENEY TODD, a role he portrayed in 2001 for director Robert D. Rook.
With amateur theatre rights just being released September first 2003, TADA Productions snagged this opportunity to begin its new 2003-04 performance series.
