here are some good excuses to get together with some friends....

Thursday Jan. 15 @ the Zoo Bar:: rc dub ::

Since our last gig in July, we have been writing away at some new material with our two new members Jason (drums) and Tim (trombone). Now back at our full six member strength we are back in the old groove and trying some new tricks. We've been dying to get out there again, and the wait is almost over.

Keep your calendars open for Thursday January 15th 2004, R.C. Dub will be returning to the Legendary Zoo Bar, our official home base, for what looks to be an amazing night.

The night will start of early and from 8:30-9:30 Josh from 400 Years Radio will be spinning some righteous tunes to get everyone in the mood. Come early to get in the groove, dance and enjoy a full night of hot island sounds to warm your cold dancing feet. And as always the boys at the bar will be offering drink specials all night.

Thursday Jan. 15 @ the Zoo Bar ~ $3 @ the door.
Hope to see you there!

:: sheldon art: Enrique Martinez Celaya ::

Enrique Martinez Celaya, The October Cycle, 2000-2002
On display Sheldon Art Gallery through January 25, 2004

Born in Cuba and raised in Spain, Enrique Martinez Celaya began to make art as a Ph.D. student in physics at the University of California-Berkeley. Intrigued with the concrete and ephemeral aspects of art making, Martinez Celaya has committed himself to using art to explore the philosophical problems of meaning, identity and communication. Celaya's work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, most recently in a three-venue exhibition focusing on his work from 1992-2000 and organized by The Contemporary Museum in Honolulu. His sculptures, paintings and subtle watercolor drawings utilize a personal iconology that explores philosophical problems through the veil of fragmentation, alienation and nostalgia.

Reconnect in Early Winter
By Cary Twomey (carytwomey@aol.com)

There is a fundamental rhythm that is present and alive within each and every one of us. It is a rhythm that tells us when we are hungry, when we are tired or over worked, when we are to extend outward or to pull back. This is a pulse that we have forgotten how to listen to, that we have chosen to ignore. Vitality, clarity, health and inner peace are available to us in abundance. But these cannot be obtained through our external pursuits alone. A vital connection must first be made in order awaken the inner wisdom; there must be a desire to move toward a life of balance. If that desire is not present, then no progress can be made.

The tissues in our body have lost their memory and in their confusion have lost the ability to heal. We have lost our connection to the mother within and Mother Nature without. The fundamental rhythms that will bring true healing at the deepest level have been pushed aside. Usually, after we have exhausted all else it is only then that we are willing to give harmonious, conscious living a try. Those that harmonize themselves will be a harmonizing force in the universe around them. We can begin to awaken the memory of our tissues and cells and reconnect to the inner and outer rhythms that will guide us in all endeavors. We can start by acknowledging the cyclical rhythms of the seasons. Each season has an inherent pace that if followed will ensure that we have the health and vitality for the season to follow. Maintenance of health is a yearly process not just an occasional thought. We are not meant to be eating and living in the same manner in every season. Try living with the rhythms of the seasons for one whole year and you will see profound positive change in the body, mind and spirit.

The full article discusses how the body works during the winter, and gives insights on ways to use this time of year to replenish your mind, body and spirit and prepare it for the deep winter. Read the rest here...
