whooo hoooo! every time these guys come to lincoln i say:
'damn, it seems like forever since they've been here.'
well, i'm sayin it again 'cause they're back again.
they'll be blowin out their own unique blend of dixieland funk
this thursday night at the zoo bar.

seven horns and two drums.
that's all these boys need to blow the roof off any venue they play.
and the zoo bar is one of their favorite joints,
so they're always in a good mood when they hit town.

don't miss these guys. seriously.
call your posse...or better yet...call that boy/girl you've been
meaning to ask out and try this: tell him/her that you've
heard this is a great band and you want to check it out
and could use some company. (not real inventive...but effective)

Don't miss the only Lincoln showing of "Behind Their Eyes: Stories of the Afghan Women Alive and Among Us"

"Behind Their Eyes is our small attempt to educate beyond the media. Our way of sharing the passion of the Afghan people who were willing to trust us with their stories of suffering, loss, survival and tenacity. These stories are not adventure stories; although, most have escapes that Hollywood would envy. These stories are about day-to-day hope, survival, trust, spirituality and learning encountered by the people of Afghanistan today as they work to release their families and communities from the strangle hold of the Taliban. The learning is on the most basic level—people to people, student to teacher, woman to woman, friend to friend. -Angels Company"

:: Living In Stillness Meditation Workshop ::

Living In Stillness Meditation Workshop with Wayne Coger
Saturday, January 24 ~ 10am-1pm $20 RSVP
'There is something wonderfully freeing and enlivening in openly observing and questioning our habitual ways. Simply being with what is present, letting go of the need to label and judge is this not the essence of meditation? In this quiet observation are we the separate, isolated watcher or do we begin to sense something not apart, something that is unbounded, loving and whole.

Wayne Coger worked with Toni Packer at Springwater Center, a center for meditative inquiry and retreats in western New York, for the past 20 years. He began working in the Zen tradition at Rochester Zen Center in the seventies. He has a great love for the work of 'meditative inquiry' and holds retreats and workshops in Springwater and elsewhere.

:: Scriptease: Greater Tuna ::

Straight outta Tuna, Texas, GREATER TUNA is a madcap character comedy that takes you for a wild ride through the people of this small eclectic community. Playwrights Jaston Williams, Joe Sears, and Ed Howard brilliantly craft the tale of Tuna’s most eccentric characters, all performed by only two actors.

Thurston Wheelis and Arles Struvie bring the lives of Tuna’s most prominent -- and not so prominent-- residents to the airwaves via radio station OKKK.

Join Robie Hayek and Nate Brandt for a reading of this hilarious script that is truly down-home funny.

Sunday, January 25, 7:00 PM
LCP Gallery Theatre ~ Admission is free
Refreshments will be provided. Donations welcome.

:: great valentine's day event ::

some people absolutely love valentine's day... while other absolutely loathe it.
either way, i have a great idea: buy a ticket (or two) to the community playhouse's mad hatter's affair!

the mad hatter's affair is a delightful night of entertainment, auctions, dinner and dancing.
the night will start at 5:30 with a cocktail hour and the opening of the silent auction items. the entertainment kicks off with a medley of song and script as the playhouse announces the 2004-2005 season. an elegant dinner will be served followed by a live auction of some spectacular items (more details later). after the auctions, dinner and entertainment are done, you can hit the dancefloor for some quality time with your date. tickets are $75 each (this is a fundraiser after all!) or $750 for a table of 10. black tie apparel is suggested, but hardly enforced.

if you're interested in coming...give me a jingle (420.2129) or email (matthew03@landisarts.com)
if you can't make it but want to contribute to the playhouse, consider buying a raffle ticket or three.
we're raffling off a $2000 necklace at $5/ticket or 3 for $12. you can buy some from me.
