.... tick
.... You know about the phenomenon.
.... tick .... You've heard about the awards.
.... tick .... You remember the heartbreak.
.... tick .... But you might not know the whole story.
.... tick .... Before RENT, Jonathan Larson had another story to tell ....
BOOM! - His own.
tick, tick ... BOOM! is the musical tale of Jonathan's days as a struggling artist in SoHo - an artist on the verge of exploding!
It is 1990, and RENT is still six years away from its Broadway debut. He is on the verge of 30 -- faced with life-altering choices and fighting to keep his dreams. His girlfriend wants to get married and move out of the city; his best friend is making big bucks on Madison Avenue; but he's still waiting tables and trying to write the great American musical. With fourteen songs, ten characters, three actors, and a band, tick, tick...BOOM! takes you on the playwright/composer's journey that led to the Broadway blockbuster, RENT.
If you love RENT, then see the Midwest Premiere of the musical about the events that inspired it. You know how his story ends -- now see the beginning. Presented by Stages of Omaha at the Millennium Theater in Omaha.

Born almost by accident nearly 40 years ago, the Swingle Singers have delighted audiences the world over. Their music emerged as a synthesis of then contemporary jazz vocal phrasing and scat with Bach fugues. Though rooted in classical music, the group has never stopped looking for new approaches and new audiences and every kind of music imaginable is fair game for creative adaptation. This special appearance will include UNL choirs.

The Elixir of Love, by Gaetano
Donizetti, is an opera of universal appeal about (false) magic and (true) love.
Set in an Italian village in the 19th century, the work tells the story of Nemorino,
hopelessly in love with the fickle-hearted Adina. The hero, inspired by ancient
mythological stories, buys a "magic" potion-the love elixir of the
opera's title-from the roguish quack peddler Dulcamara. Of course, the elixir
is actually just a cheap red wine. When, suddenly, all the girls-except Adina-begin
lavishing Nemorino with attention, he thinks the elixir has done the trick.
He is unaware of the real reason: his rich uncle has died, leaving him a large
inheritance. When Dulcamara brags to Adina that his potion is responsible for
Nemorino's new popularity and informs her that Nemorino has sold himself into
the army to buy the potion in order, Adina realizes the depth of his love for
her-and of hers for him.

Cosy Sheridan describes herself as being on a spiritual quest, with occasional moments of tasteless, comic diversion. Winner of both Kerrville Folk Festival’s Newfolk award and Telluride Bluegrass Festival’s Troubadour award, her musical approach places her in a class apart. From Carnegie Hall to the Dr. Demento Show to the Cowgirl Hall of Fame. You can count on these, and almost everywhere in between, as stops along the way for Cosy and her music. The Boston Globe says "she’s a wonderfully lively, very funny and enormously amiable entertainer, with a keen and wicked eye for the excesses of our fast-food, TV-happy and noisome culture."
