S.E. Hinton’s powerful and compassionate book about young people is the source of this play, as it was for the film version, which has become a modern classic. The play is set in Tulsa in 1966 and deals with urban warfare between the “Greasers” and the “Socs.” Events are seen through the eyes of Ponyboy, a young “Greaser” caught up in the territorial battles between the two gangs. This is a play about young people who are not yet hopeless, about latent decency in the midst of struggle, about not losing touch with the residual slivers of gold in all of us.

.... tick
.... You know about the phenomenon.
.... tick .... You've heard about the awards.
.... tick .... You remember the heartbreak.
.... tick .... But you might not know the whole story.
.... tick .... Before RENT, Jonathan Larson had another story to tell ....
BOOM! - His own.
tick, tick ... BOOM! is the musical tale of Jonathan's days as a struggling artist in SoHo - an artist on the verge of exploding!
It is 1990, and RENT is still six years away from its Broadway debut. He is on the verge of 30 -- faced with life-altering choices and fighting to keep his dreams. His girlfriend wants to get married and move out of the city; his best friend is making big bucks on Madison Avenue; but he's still waiting tables and trying to write the great American musical. With fourteen songs, ten characters, three actors, and a band, tick, tick...BOOM! takes you on the playwright/composer's journey that led to the Broadway blockbuster, RENT.
If you love RENT, then see the Midwest Premiere of the musical about the events that inspired it. You know how his story ends -- now see the beginning. Presented by Stages of Omaha at the Millennium Theater in Omaha.
