:: propagandART ~ march 29, 2004 ::

so i'm looking for some help filling out the calendar.
check the site and let me know about any cool events not already listed!
www.landisarts.com/propagandART/

there are a couple of other good entertaiment sources you should check out.
one is a website called star city scene. it's a great resource about the local music scene:
www.starcityscene.com

laura nettland has started an email listing of all-things related
to theater. it seems hers will be a more comprehensive resource
for live theater and include all kinds of other information like
auditions and such. i'll post a sample of her email on my site.
if you dig it, i bet you could contact her and get added to the list.

:: happenchance: the movie ::

so check this out...
i'm in a student film called happenchance. it's filming right now.
sunday night's shoot included a police car, flood lights, camera and
police line tape (you know...'police line - do not cross').
well, somebody called the journal star thinking something bad had
gone down, so they sent a reporter over. she found out what
was going on and put a little blurb in today's paper.
no kidding! check it out!
http://www.journalstar.com/articles/2004/03/29/local/10047412.txt

and you can find four pages of production stills on the
producer's photo site:
http://homepage.mac.com/jenniferlukas/PhotoAlbum3.html

now, onto some great excuses to get outta the house...

hit their website:: magnificent 7 ::

the supercool magnificent 7 will be filling bodega's with some
righteous music this wednesday, march 31 after the dead hour.
(to all non-greatful dead fans, that means 11pm.)
there'll probably be a cover charge of a couple of bucks.

if i'm not mistaken, they're flying to ny on thursday to play
at the frickin apollo theater!!! so catch them now so you can
say 'man, i used to see them when nobody'd heard of 'em.'

:: Delbert McClinton ::

The venerable Delbert McClinton is a legend among Texas roots music aficionados, not only for his amazing longevity, but for his ability to combine country, blues, soul, and rock & roll as if there were no distinctions between any of them in the best time-honored Texas tradition. A formidable harmonica player long before he recorded as a singer, McClinton's career began in the late '50s, yet it took him nearly two decades to evolve into a bona fide solo artist. A critics' darling and favorite of his peers, McClinton never really became a household name, but his resurgence in the '90s helped him earn more widespread respect from the public at large.

:: starcityscene.com anniversary celebration ::

Starcityscene.com celebrates it's first anniversary on April 1st, and in conjunction with that, we're having several special events, both online and live.

First, we're having a month long Lincoln show poster/flyer exhibit. Show posters for Lincoln rock shows going back over the past 20 years or so. Featuring over 100 posters, (and still collecting), this should be a great show!

We're also rolling out a page with a listing and info of Lincoln bands of the past. My goal is to include every original band that ever existed in Lincoln from A-10 House Of Zen to Zager & Evans, but that might be a bit of a lofty goal, It WILL include as many bands as I can find out about.

We're launching version 2.0 of Star City Scene Radio. The current version just serves up music files in sequential order, so each time you click on the link it starts at the beginning again. The upgraded version will be a "live steam" that people will join in progress, and it will just play in a continous loop. We also upgraded our radio server which will allow us to stream about 15 hours of music. SCS Radio plays ONLY original music written and performed by Lincolnites.

Finally on Sunday, April 4th, we're having our Anniversary Party at Duffy's Tavern (1412 O St) with 5 bands (currently confirmed are Shacker and Rent Money Big, the rest of the bands, start time, and admission fee to be announced). We'd like to invite everyone in Lincoln to come on out and support the local music scene, and help us celebrate our first year and kick off our 2nd year in style!

For complete details, hit the press release.

:: UNL's Theatrix to Present PTERODACTYLS ::

UNL Theatre's student-run second stage, Theatrix, continues its spring season with PTERODACTYLS by Nicky Silver, directed by undergraduates Zach Clawson and Jack Carpenter.

An absurdist black comedy about the demise of the Duncan family and, by extension, the species. Dysfunction takes on new meaning with the Duncan Family. We laugh throughout, as we watch the family disintegrate, and finally realize the seeds of this dysfunction lie within us all.

Emma Duncan, a hypochondriac with memory problems, and her orphaned fiancé, Tommy, confront her mother, Grace, with the news of their intended marriage. Disapproving at first, Grace acquiesces and puts Tommy to work as a maid. Shortly after, Grace's son, Todd, returns home and announces he has AIDS which sets off a frenzy of denial-spurred activity. The father, Arthur Duncan, reaches out to his son who is more interested in assembling the dinosaur bones he discovers in the back yard.

Performances are Thursday at 7:30 p.m.; April 1; Friday, April 2 at 7:30 & 10:30 p.m.; and Saturday, April 3 at 7:30 p.m.
in the Studio Theatre, third floor of the Temple Building at the corner of 12th & R streets.

Admission to all productions is $5.00 and available at the door only.

:: crescent moon music ::

Friday, April 2nd ~ The Crescent Moon Jazz Band performs from 7PM to 10PM. If the weather is good, the courtyard will be open this week-end!

Saturday, April 3rd- Michael Murphy, Omaha singer, songwriter, and Indian flute player, will be here from 8 PM to 10PM

Michael's last performance at Crescent Moon was delightful. Playing a variety of wood flutes, Michael has also incorporated his guitar work through his latest technical equipment to create a variety of sounds that will make you think you are listening to a quartet!

As you can see, there are two "programs" in this project and we hope that you'll consider seeing both of them. The plays have been condensed by NWU English and Theatre students into delightful 25-30 minute vignettes and are accompanied by biographical and cultural material about William Shakespeare as written by Canadian educator Lois Burdett. This project is supervised by NWU Professor Joan Korte and is directed by NWU students Brook Stetler and Matthew Schroll.

Ticket prices are: $10 for adults; $7.50 for seniors and youth 12-17; $5
non-NWU college students with ID & children under 12.

I hope that you'll make plans to join us.

Sincere best wishes,
Jay Scott Chipman
Director of Theatre
Nebraska Wesleyan University
