Starcityscene.com Celebrates 1st Anniversary

On April 1st Starcityscene.com celebrates its first anniversary with several special events.

Star City Scene is a Lincoln based online music community that covers and promotes the Lincoln music scene and spotlights local talent through interviews, show and CD reviews, local music news, message boards, event calendar, venue info, and a streaming radio station, which allows visitors to sample a wide range of music written and performed by Lincolnites.

* The first special event is a Lincoln Rock Show Poster/Flyer Exhibit. Hundreds of examples of beautiful artwork for Lincoln rock shows spanning as recently as last week, and going back 20 years. This event takes place online at starcityscene.com, from 4/1/04 to 5/1/04. It’ll be a real history lesson.

* Speaking of history lessons, the second event is our Encyclopedia of Lincoln Rock Bands. The goal with this project is to include information on EVERY original band from Lincoln that has ever existed. Perhaps that goal might be a bit lofty, but we’re approaching 300 bands, and are going to try to get as many bands included as possible. While researching the information, we’ve also collected band member’s memories of the Lincoln rock scene of their day. Information spans from the mid 50’s through today. This will be a permanent installation on the site, so site visitors with information will be able to add it at any time.

* Our 3rd online event is the launch of Star City Scene Radio Version 2.0. Star City Scene Radio, which plays ONLY music written and performed by Lincoln bands and artists, has been around for almost a year, but we’ve upgraded our software and server. The station will be more of a true "live" stream, and we’ve increased our server size so we can stream between 15 and 20 hours of music.

* Our last online event is a follow-up interview with our very first Feature Band, Rent Money Big, to find out what the last year has held for them, and what their future plans are.

* Finally, this site IS about the local music scene, so we’re gonna have some live music. Our Starcityscene.com Anniversary Blowout Party will be held down at Duffy’s Tavern (1412 O St) on Sunday, April 4th, and feature sets from Rent Money Big, The Bad Sects, Shacker, and Tangelo.
