:: propagandART ~ may 11, 2004 ::

every once in a while, something truly exciting rears it's head.
if you're ready for it and open to it, you can experience something
that will charge up your batteries for days, weeks or months to come.
the days just seem brighter.
problems don't feel so dire.
blessings feel all the more humbling.
but you may have to step outside your comfort zone
and try something new or unexpected.
that's what these emails are for.
that's why i have all these events (and more) listed on my website.
www.landisarts.com/propagandART
try something new instead of sticking to the routine.
what've you got to lose? even if you don't like it...
it'll still be a good story to tell. :-)

:: vinx ::

i saw vinx when he played at the omaha healing arts center a while back.
it was one of the most intimate music gatherings i've ever attended.
those of us who were there felt privileged.
it was like a beautiful secret that we got to share.
but in addition to that, vinx enjoyed the experience as much as we did.
the intimate setting in that beautiful space with the warm audience
made him feel comfortable enough to take some risks.
he rearranged a song on the spot with spontaneous and gorgeous results.
he said he was excited to come back.
and, finally, he's here...and he's brought reinforcements.

he's got two other percussionists with him and sekou torbert who was
a featured dancer in bring in da noise, bring in da funk on broadway.
this promises to be another truly unique experience.

:: Mike McGee - His Spoken Word ::

Mike McGee was once heckled by his mother's kidney while performing in the womb. Then five years later, he gave up a career in break dancing after a horse racing accident, turning his focus onto the arts.

Mike writes to inspire through entertainment. Since 1989, Mike has been involved in various projects including theater, music, radio, slam poetry, stand up comedy and television. It was in 1998 when Mike entered his first open mic, in San Jose, that he realized his dream: To talk at people until they left or laughed. He has since done at least half his best to marry humor with sincerity, and observance with comedy. With spoken word, Mike is able to grab the audience, entertain them, let them into his world, and express some of his deepest feelings. Mike likes people and it shows in his presence and performance. Born with Spina Bifida, Mike has overcome many physical limitations that would ordinarily keep someone from hitting the stage.

Quite the prolific writer, Mike has written dozens of short stories, several screenplays and hundreds of poems and spoken word pieces. He credits his short name, pear-shape and personality for the fact that people are nice to him. His oddball humor and quick delivery make for one helluva show. His serious side coupled with his comic take on life and community are what keep him sane.

Mike’s Dream...“To talk at people until they left or laughed.”

:: fantasticks - last weekend! ::

The Fantasticks, freely adapted from Edmond Rostand's 1894 play Les Romanesques, tells an age-old tale. Its ingredients are simple: a boy, a girl, two fathers, and a wall. Its stage is a wooden platform, its scenery a tattered cardboard moon. Using only these bare essentials, the author and composer have managed to bring to life a funny and quite touching story of innocence...and of knowledge.
