:: Theater Softball Challenge: PLAY BALL! ::
Dave Landis and the Repertory Theater have thrown down the proverbial gauntlet. They have challenged all Theater-types to a game of softball. The game will be this Sunday, July 25th at 6pm at fields (across the street from Lincoln High, around 22nd and J). The rule is 'bat til you hit!' So grab your glove, your friends and your recreational spirit (oh and a bat if you have one). Here's his original email...
Attention theater world!
Sunday. July 25th. 6pm. Lewis Field (across the street from Lincoln High)
Nebraska Rep versus the world in a no holds barred evening of rambunctious theater
softball! We've got bats. We've got balls. We've got gloves. You've got no excuses.
Shoot me an e-mail if you're interested! Let's show all those other losers the
kind of sheer, unadulterated athleticism that real theater folk are capable
of.
Hope to see you Sunday,
Dave

Robert Randolph & The Family Band ::
Robert Randolph set the music world on fire in late 2000 and early 2001 when he began to play his first club dates in New York City. These were a result of being discovered playing his pedal steel guitar at the first Sacred Steel Convention in Florida in the spring of 2000. Randolph started playing the pedal steel as a teenager and started playing at his Orange, NJ, church just outside of Newark. The House of God Church, an African-American Pentecostal denomination, has been implementing steel guitars (or "Sacred Steel") in services since the '30s, with the pedal steel in particular being introduced during the '70s. Randolph learned to play by watching other steel players in his church.
He electrfied the Grammy's last year during a tribute to funk music. He stood out, even though he was sandwiched between legends: Earth, Wind & Fire and George Clinton & P-Funk. Randolph is the opening act for Eric Clapton at the Qwest Center on Thursday, but he gets his own gig at the Rococo on Friday. This will be super hot!!

:: Jon D. Appleget ::
A good buddy of mine will be at James Arthur Vineyard on Saturday, July 24th from 6-9 pm. You're in for a delightful acoustic solo act full of classic rock from the 50's 60's 70's and 80's with a little bit of original music thrown in along with a few obscure old tunes from the folk traditions. He's a great guy and puts together a delightful evening of music.

RC Dub ::
It is hard to describe a band with such original and complex sounds, yet the roots and feel of the music all lead towards reggae. From a heavy drum and bass number, to a rock steady tune, and into an old school ska song, or a classic jazz number this band definitely rocks too. With well over two hours of music R.C.dub is sure to entertain and keep the groove going all night. Hit their website for more: www.rcdub.com

Heartache and talent times five, goodbye Sunday brings a lifetime of experience to the stage. This is a band that loves the music it makes.
How does goodbye Sunday describe their sound? Pretty and heartbreaking. The music is good and full of frenzy and madness and joy. It is exhilarating and entirely danceable.
Goodbye Sunday lineup: Ariann Anderson-Novak -vocals; Cami Rawlings - guitar and vocals; Veronica Valenz - keys and guitar; Mike Fratt - bass; Javier Ochoa - drums and percussion

Seussical: The Musical ::
(A limited number of RUSH tickets, priced at $10 each, will be available for the Thursday, July 22 performance of SEUSSICAL. Tickets must be purchased in person at the box office between 5 and 6 PM on the 22nd – two tickets per person. No phone calls.)
"After all those years
being stuck on a page,
Did you ever imagine you’d see me onstage?
Now I’m here, there is no telling what may ensue!
No, there’s no telling what!
But I’ll give you a clue..."
So says the mischievous Cat in the Hat at the onset of this fantastical, magical, musical extravaganza! Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty (Once On This Island, Ragtime) have lovingly brought to life all of our favorite Dr. Seuss characters, including Horton the Elephant, Gertrude McFuzz, Lazy Mayzie and all of the Whos of Whoville!
These classic, colorful tales are seamlessly brought together by Jojo, a young “thinker of strange and wonderful thinks”! As each story unfolds you will marvel at how relevant and profound Seuss’s subtle themes are, making this a musical that appeals to all ages.
The score emerges as a Seussian gumbo of musical styles, ranging from Latin to pop, swing to gospel, and R&B to funk! So let your toes tap, your fingers snap, and your imagination run wild, for
"If you open your mind,
Oh, the thinks you will find
Lining up to get loose!
Oh, the thinks you can think!
Oh, the thinks you can think
When you think about Seuss!!"
