:: starcityscene.com notes ::

Item 1:
Starcityscene.com is temporarily offline for a few weeks. We've had a GREAT deal of trouble with our webhost. They've mistakenly taken our site offline 3 seperate times in October, dumped all our files, and won't fulfill the rest of our service to the tune of us losing about $150 bucks. As a result of their incredibly bad service, We're moving to a new host. As soon as our domain gets transferred to the new host we'll be back online, and better than ever, hopefully this week. In the meantime, the messageboard is still online at http://www.aimoo.com/starcityscene

Item 2:
The songs of Suzy Dreamer & Her Nightmares are pop songs with lyrics taken from singer Kristen Bailey's dream journals, so they make for very strange, surreal and sometimes spooky fare, making them the perfect band to spend your halloween with http://www.suzydreamer.com

Working hard to inject fun back into rock & roll, Evil Beaver are Chicago's post-Grunge duo of Evie Evil and L.A. Beaver. Playing songs that sound like a combiniation of Nirvana and Hole. They always put on a great show! http://www.ridethebeaver.com

Starcitsycene.com is holding a halloween costume contest tonight. Best Costume of the night wins both Suzy Dreamer CD's, a Starcityscene.com T-shirt and other cool goodies. This is sure to be THE Halloween party to be at. Make sure you're there so that, in the future when everyone's talking about what a great show this was, you won't have to lie, and make believe you were! Hit starcityscene.com for more details.

:: Lyp-Schtick ::

Lincoln's best improv comedy troupe is taking this town by storm. If you haven't seen them yet, GET TO IT!

Their style of improvization is (loosely) based on "Who's Line Is It Anyway?" in the way that the audience helps determine the subject matter of the sketches. They'll set the rules, then we set the situations and characters. It's so much fun!!

Check out what the Journal Star has to say about troupe leader Beth Muehling and the gang!

:: Baby with the Bathwater ::

Baby with the Bathwater begins in the house of Helen (Danielle Smith) and John (Scott Herr), two people who are very unprepared for parenthood. They can't seem to name the baby. John thinks it's a boy, but Helen says the doctors said they could decide later. In time, without looking at its sex, they name their son Daisy Dingleberry (Colin Creveling). This alone may cause a child some dysfunction, but once you add a Nanny that acts like a warped Mary Poppins (Cris Rook), a crazed neighbor with a child eating dog (Somer Sloan), a worn out therapist (Jim Kelley) and other demented characters, you can count on it! A perfect Trick AND Treat this October! The dark comedy is written by gifted and award winning playwright Christopher Durang. "Christopher Durang is one of the funniest dramatists alive and one of the most sharply satiric. This time, parenthood is the target. Durang keeps laughter bubbling....we laugh and gasp at the same time." - Edith Oliver, The New Yorker. *This show contains some adult content and is not recommended for younger audiences

:: Woyzeck ::

UNL Theatre's University Theatre presents a new translation of the Georg Buchner play Woyzeck. Dr. William Grange, professor of Theatre Arts at UNL and a German Drama specialist, translated the play from the German during the summer. Grange also directs the production, which is not recommended for children. For full details, hit the press release.

Woyzeck tells the story of Franz Woyzeck, the servant of a German captain. Woyzeck leads the life of the poor in the 1800s. Considered by the upper classes, because of his lot in life, to be amoral and stupid, Woyzeck tries to think, to be a philosopher, but is chided for his attempt. In order to earn additional money, Woyzeck allows the Doctor to experiment on him. The latest test is eating nothing but peas in order to prove some unstated scientific premise. To add to his trials, Woyzeck discovers his girlfriend Marie, with whom he has had a son, is having an affair. Stripped of all humanity, Woyzeck resorts to desperate measures.
