Stuart Davis ::
Buddhist Pop Singer Comes to Omaha
Why do people travel hundreds of miles to catch a Stuart Davis concert? His shows are not so much concerts as "events," each one an utterly singular experience of masterfully crafted songs with bizarre monologues, stories, and theories. Here is your chance to see one of the most gifted artists of our time.
If you care about music, Spirit, or experiencing a seminal artist in his prime, you owe it to yourself to come see Stuart Davis. Not only is Stuart one the best songwriters and performers in the world today, but he has so perfectly synthesized pop music and Zen Buddhism that his catalogue consists of Rock Sutras more than songs, and his performances crackle and pop with Presence through and among the Gross/Subtle/Causal rainbow. Beyond that he is just plain compelling - he's invented his own language, is writing a book - "Sex, God, Rock and Roll", founded his own label, Dharma Pop, based on the Bodhisattva's Vow and run on the principle of One Subject, and is conversant on topics as diverse as quantum mechanics and postmodern cinematic form and technique.

:: Star City Holiday Parade ::
This is a message from Major Drummond, mascot of the Star City Holiday Parade.
"Can you believe the parade and I are celebrating our 20th anniversary this year?! I thought I still looked pretty darn good for my age, so imagine my surprise when my parade friends took me aside and said, 'Major, you need a MAJOR makeover!' Boy, am I glad they did! I look terrific! I hope you will check out my new look at the Star City Holiday Parade, Saturday December 4th at 11 a.m. in downtown Lincoln. The City of Lincoln, Updowntowners, Inc. and First National Bank sure put on a great show, with bands, floats and giant balloons. My good friends Santa and Mrs. Claus will be there too! Bring the whole gang as we celebrate 'Our Lasting Treasure.' And did I mention how great I look?"

A Christmas Card from Stage and Screen ::
Friends,
I wanted to email you because I know you have a special fondness for musical
theatre and this week there is a special show that might wet your whistle on
stage at Kimball Hall Saturday night.
This past year, TADA has been working diligently on a special production with
the Lincoln Symphony Orchestra. The show is called A Christmas Card From Stage
and Screen. The original production has many wonderful selections from Broadway
and television that are centered around themes appropriate for this time of
year. I have spent a great deal of time compiling these songs and during the
process a couple surprises came along the way. One was that Phil Springer, composer
of the song Santa Baby, heard in the film Driving Miss Daisy, agreed to do a
special arrangement for the concert. The second is that lyricist Lynn Ahrens
and composer Alan Menken have given TADA special permission to perform their
song, A Place Called Home from A Christmas Carol. This song has been tightly
restricted due to MTI's latest deal with the TV version of the musical featuring
Kelsey Grammer. Yet thanks to perseverance and a little holiday magic, Lynn
Ahrens emailed us with her and Mr. Menken's blessings, thus paving the road
for a sensational arrangement for this concert. These are just a couple reasons
that I think you would enjoy this show.
I would be remiss if I didn't
mention the wonderful variety of voices that are included in the production:
Annette Murrell, Zuri, Cris Rook, Tom Westfall, Evan Rail, Jeff Keele and Bill
Stibor. They do splendid work on songs from Jekyll & Hyde, Les Mis, Chess,
Mame, Holiday Inn and others. Conductor Tyler White and the LSO along with our
accompanist Sheri Ericksen have been great to collaborate with on offering Nebraska
a really unique and entertaining production.
This concert is the true idea of collaboration between performing entities.
I know there is a lot to do and see this time of year, but you won't regret
putting this show at the top of your list! Tickets are available by contacting
the LSO at 476-2211 and there is a link to their web site at www.tadaproductions.info.
I've attached a picture of the cast and the LSO press release with more details
as well.
Happy Holidays!

:: The Fever ::
Our project was developed as a means of awakening Nebraska’s consciousness to the part each of us play in the affairs of our communities, nation and world. The performance is meant to evoke civic dialogue and engage individuals to take action.
Project director and performer Jessica Watson says, "I had been searching for some way to challenge apathy… especially during this election year. I realized that I had become the apathetic public myself. I was so frustrated with talking about the issues, I needed to do something. "THE FEVER" is what I can do. I believe everyone needs a voice. I invite others to look at their beliefs, their truths, their reality and ask, 'why?' I ask Nebraskans to start a conversation, listen and perhaps even act on their beliefs. Wallace Shawn asks audiences to grow."
