:: propagandART - november 1, 2005 ::

i just got back from the john mayall show tonight....
whoa...what an exceptional show.
one of the performers stated how grateful he was to be able to play music for us.
and i got to thinking that we should be just as grateful that we have great music
like that to come see. i left the leid center with a huge smile, a spring in my step,
an autographed ticket stub and a desire to pull all my john mayall cds out and stick them on my ipod.
i ran into a bunch of people i know and we were all beaming.
this is why i send out these emails!!!!!
moments this are what makes life so special.
connecting with art...connecting with each other...
it's just such a unique rush.

:: John Mayall's Blues Breakers ::

Known as the godfather of the British Blues Boom of the late 1960s, John Mayall has also been called the greatest talent scout of all time, helping to ignite the careers of Eric Clapton, Mick Fleetwood, John McVie, and Mick Taylor, to name a few. Mayall and the Bluesbreakers are keeping the blues alive with one of three sets. Also featured in the performance are guitar greats Robben Ford and Eric Bibb. Hit his website for more: www.johnmayall.com

"By dedicating his efforts to the pursuit of everything blues, Mayall eschewed the trappings of British Invasion-era rock and single-handedly crafted a genre all for himself." – Adam Williams, PopMatters

:: Matt & Ben ::

Rough Magic Productions proudly presents the Nebraska premiere production of MATT & BEN, a marvelous satire of Hollywood, celebrity, male relationships, making it big, and most of all Matt Damon and Ben Affleck. MATT & BEN was created and originally performed by two former classmates of the actors, who naturally wondered how some are chosen for stardom while others (perhaps equally or more deserving) aren't. The beauty of this piece (as one critic pointed out) is the joy the writers take in naming names, refusing to soft-pedal the satire. This pointed farce was national news when it originally ran in New York and we are incredibly excited to have the opportunity to bring it to Lincoln.

The story follows Matt Damon and Ben Affleck, two young actors (played by women) and best friends on the verge of fame. On a "lazy Saturday in Somerville, Massachusetts," they are working on a screenplay they believe will change their lives: an adaptation of JD Salinger's classic, THE CATCHER IN THE RYE. Then, suddenly, an amazing original script falls into Ben's living room with their names already on it. That script is called GOOD WILL HUNTING. What are they to do? Who sent this script? Is it a blessing or a curse? What happened at the senior year talent show? Will Casey lose his speech impediment? Most importantly, can their friendship survive this strange miracle?

Rough Magic Productions' mission is to use a collaborative, nourishing atmosphere to produce new works of theatre that balance culture and counterculture, responsibility and risk, relevance and timelessness. Now in our fifth year, we are delighted to continue to bring Lincoln new, original, and experimental theatre.

:: The Moody Blues ::

For over thirty years, The Moody Blues have been musical mainstays on concert stages, recordings and the airwaves. Their remarkable consistency has generated the sale of more than 55 million albums and created a standard for classic rock music. Released in 1967, the group's first full studio album, Days of Future Passed, remained on the Billboard charts for over two years. Featuring one of the best-selling singles of all time, "Nights in White Satin," the album became a milestone in rock recording.

In 1968, the British-born Moody Blues made their first trip to the United States, where they quickly established a devoted following that endures to this day. After nearly three decades of recording and tours, the band released The Very Best of The Moody Blues in 1996, earning platinum status four years later during a recorded concert performance at London's Royal Albert Hall with The World Festival Orchestra.

Join one of the most celebrated bands of the British Invasion-era for an evening of lush arrangements and classic pop, rock and psychedelic hits.

:: Bonnie Raitt ::

Nine-time Grammy Award winner Bonnie Raitt is not just a best-selling artist, respected guitarist, expressive singer and accomplished songwriter - she's an institution in American music. The daughter of celebrated Broadway singer John Raitt and accomplished pianist/singer Marge Goddard, Raitt released her bluesy self-titled debut in 1971. Though stunningly executed and a critical success, the album merely hinted at the career and accomplishments that lay ahead.

Recording six albums over the next seven years, Raitt produced her first hit single in 1977 with the gritty Memphis/R&B arrangement of Del Shannon's "Runaway." Three Grammy nominations followed in the 1980s, as she released The Glow, Green Light, and Nine Lives. After signing on with Capitol Records in 1989, Raitt achieved new levels of popularity and critical acclaim. In 1990 alone, she netted four Grammy Awards, three for Nick of Time (now quintuple-platinum) and one for her duet with John Lee Hooker on his breakthrough album, The Healer. Raitt's next effort, Luck of the Draw, brought even more success, claiming two hit singles - "Something to Talk About" and "I Can't Make You Love Me" - and adding three more Grammys to her shelf. The double-platinum Longing in Their Hearts, released in 1994, earned Raitt yet another Grammy for Best Pop Album.

In September 2003, Capitol Records released The Best of Bonnie Raitt on Capitol, a retrospective of the legendary redhead's remarkably prolific run with the label. An inductee in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Raitt continues to mesmerize audiences with her masterful guitar-playing, effortless singing style and soulful presence.
