:: propagandART ~ march 15, 2006 ::

last weekend i went to the women of note concert.
parts of it were just as i expected: heartfelt endearing performances by local talent.
what i didn't expect was to have a couple of serious questions posed.
jen and i had some heavy conversation based on some of the content of the show.
because of that conversation, i think she and i both have a couple of nuggets
of wisdom that we'll take along with us which will serve us well in days to come.
thank you, baby needs shoes and angels company for an enlightening evening.
this just goes to show, big or small, the answers to life's questions can be
found in the arts.

oh yeah...and t.marni voss is one funny m.f.

:: Kid Simple ::

The Lincoln Community Playhouse, in association with Rough Magic Productions, present KID-SIMPLE, a radio play in the flesh by Jordan Harrison.

KID-SIMPLE follows a young genius named Moll as she invents a machine that can detect sounds that are beyond the range of hearing (the footsteps of spiders, faraway shipwrecks, the sound of heartbreak). Unfortunately, the machine is desired by evil forces who hire a master of disguise to obtain it for them. It's up to Moll and her virginal friend Oliver to save sound (and the universe) as we know it from total chaos. A narrator and onstage foley artist help tell this hysterically funny, blazingly original, and ultimately poignant story.

:: The Itals::

One of Jamaica's signature harmony groups, the Itals were chiefly responsible for keeping the sound and spirit of roots reggae alive well into the dancehall era. They didn't get as much attention as other great vocal trios from the roots era because their '70s releases were confined to 45-rpm singles. When they finally made the leap to LPs in the '80s, they attracted highly positive notices from many reggae aficionados, even despite the fact that roots was rapidly growing passé in Jamaica with the advent of dancehall reggae.

Over the years, the Itals have performed countless shows worldwide. Although the harmony singers have sometimes changed, they still sound as sweet as ever, backing the original Itals lead vocalist, Keith Porter. Now, with the release of “Mi Livity” from the Itals’ Keith Porter, the Ital tradition continues into the current music scene. For their complete story hit their website (theitals.com) or their entry on allmusic.com.
